For a year now, Vladimir Zelensky has been President of Ukraine. He won on April 21, 2019 in the second round of elections with a result of 73% of the vote, overtaking his predecessor Petro Poroshenko.

During the year of rule, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky took a number of important steps for the agricultural sector.

Firstly, the law on land market No. 2178-10 was adopted. Land reform in Ukraine and the free land market were some of the main election promises of Vladimir Zelensky.

“If you dig deeper, then other candidates went to the polls with this thesis. True, under this law we received a quasi-market and the preservation of the land status quo for at least 2 years. Why? On the one hand, unit owners have a legal right to sell their land. On the other hand, individuals (since July 1, 2021) and legal entities (from January 1, 2024) received an access to the purchase of land. An important point: foreigners’s access to the land law is not possible until the all-Ukrainian referendum on this topic, ”the material says.

Secondly, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food was liquidated, its functions are distributed in a number of departments under the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture.

Thirdly, the state support of the agricultural sector has been preserved. In the same year, the Cabinet’s reformers, looking at the budget, tried to take support into the agricultural sector. Thanks precisely to the position of Vladimir Zelensky, “circumcision” of 4 billion UAH was avoided. Therefore, instead of lending for the purchase of land, they will be directed to other programs of the sector.
