Expert: Ukrainians will have grain and borscht

The First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Taras Vysotskyi, on the broadcast of the Yedyny Novyni marathon, emphasized that farmers plan to increase sowing of spring crops, as well as onions, carrots and buckwheat. Therefore, in his opinion, there will be no shortage of grain crops on the domestic market of Ukraine. This will contribute to the availability of the domestic product for the Ukrainian consumer.

According to the government official, farmers from Odesa, Central and Western Ukraine are resuming the cultivation of vegetables, first of all, the borscht variety - onions and carrots.

"This year, the situation with onions and carrots on the market will be stable compared to last year. Products will be more accessible to the Ukrainian consumer," Taras Vysotsky is convinced.

It is also planned to sow more non-export-oriented crops: buckwheat, oats and millet.

"Already in 2022, farmers have significantly increased the volume of buckwheat sowing. Therefore, today its price is 50% lower than last year. Almost the same area of sowing is expected this year. That is, more buckwheat will be produced than is needed for domestic consumption. The need for imports will decrease, and there will be no reason to increase the price. Even a price reduction is possible, but this will become clear after the fact of fixing the sown areas in June," said the First Deputy Minister.
