Experts Expect 11 Million Tonnes of Sugar Beet Yield

Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has published a decade review, which contains data on the expected level of sugar beet harvest in Ukraine. Experts predict that the average yield in the 2021 season will be 47 tons per hectare. The gross harvest of sugar beet from the fields of Ukraine is expected to reach 11 million tons. The expected figure exceeds last year's actual values by 1-1.5 million tons.

Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center reports that the moisture supply of crops is at the level of 65-71% of the optimum, and excessively warm weather was observed. According to experts, the average weight of the root crop was 700 grams, and the minimum indicators were 150 grams. These figures are higher than last year's figures. In most of the cultivated areas, there is a good state of crops, however, in some districts of the Poltava region, it was assessed as unsatisfactory.

The highest yield is expected in the Lviv region – 59 tons per hectare. It is followed by the Ivano-Frankivsk region – 52.5 tons per hectare. The third place, with an indicator of 49 tons per hectare, is shared by the Kyiv, Vinnitsya, and Volyn regions.

Experts note that due to the weather, the conditions for the formation of the crop were heterogeneous. Due to cold weather in a number of regions, sowing dates were postponed by an average of 2 weeks. Because of this, the period of leaf formation began later. Good results were largely ensured due to the good moisture supply of the soils during the period of plant development.
