Potato Growers Worried About Potato Quality Due to Bad Weather

Ukrainian potato growers are worried about the 2021 harvest. The reason for this was unfavorable weather conditions. In July, heavy rains with thunderstorms took place throughout Ukraine, which led to a decrease in the quality of tubers. Producers note that in the southern regions, potatoes began to rot right in the fields. A particularly difficult situation has been observed in the Kherson region.

Due to the unfavorable environment, manufacturers have to revise prices almost daily. The crop of tubers turned out to be of poor quality, which forces the farmers to sell it as soon as possible. At the moment, the lion's share of the Ukrainian market is occupied by potatoes, which are unsuitable for storage.

However, buyers are in no hurry to buy products, despite the constant decline in prices. Many customers are dissatisfied with the appearance of the potatoes. The demand for tubers is declining, which also puts pressure on the price. Agrarians from the Kherson region are already forced to sell potatoes at a price of 4 hryvnias per kg. The average price of a product in Ukraine is 4-7 UAH / kg, which is 16% less than last week.

Weather forecasts indicate that rainy weather will linger in Ukraine until the end of the week. Agricultural market experts are confident that potato prices will remain steadily low until autumn until the time comes for harvesting tubers suitable for long-term storage.
