Romania Does Not Have Enough Transport Capacity to Export Grain from Ukraine

Romania faced problems with an underdeveloped transport infrastructure for grain exports from Ukraine. President Klaus Johannes called the situation with grain export "a logistical challenge of epic proportions." According to the head of the port of Constanta, Florin Goidea, this task cannot be solved quickly.

Goidea noted that more than 80% of grain from Ukraine comes to the port of Constanta. Delivery is carried out with the help of small vessels on the Danube. Transportation by trucks is also used, but delivery in this way is even more complicated. According to Florin Goidea, there are formalities on the border between Ukraine and Romania due to which trucks with grain stand at the border for weeks. Up to 25 vans with grain arrive at the port of Constanta daily. Because of this, traffic jams occur in the port.

There were also problems with the railroad. Previously, 700 decommissioned railway wagons were placed on the territory of the port of Constanta. Half of these wagons have now been removed from the tracks. A project to expand the port of Constanta is also under consideration, but it is not known when it will be accepted.

Romania is not the only country that offers Ukraine ways to export grain. Poland and Hungary also offered logistical routes.
