Russia Has Stopped Exporting Buckwheat to Ukraine

The Russian Federation has banned the supply of buckwheat to Ukraine and the export of this product in general. The Russian government has included buckwheat in the list of “vital” goods for domestic consumption.

This is reported in the decree on the Russian portal of legal information. In accordance with the document, the export ban begins on June 5 and will last until August 31, 2021.

The resolution contains a list of goods that are subject to the ban. The list includes buckwheat, buckwheat groats, and hulled buckwheat grains. Exceptions apply only to humanitarian supplies, the supply of military personnel abroad, as well as at the Baikonur cosmodrome, and the provision of the Spitsbergen archipelago.

According to the Customs Service of Ukraine, in the first quarter of 2021, Ukraine purchased buckwheat and other goods of this group for $ 5.4 million. More than 50% of the supply is from Russia.
