Slovakia lifted restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products

Slovakia lifted restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products

On Friday, May 12, the Slovak government lifted restrictions on the supply of Ukrainian agricultural products. Instead, the rules set by the European Commission will apply. The Slovak government also decided to establish a special regime for the transit of Ukrainian agricultural goods through its territory.

Slovakia has become the third country to lift the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. Earlier this was done by Poland and Bulgaria. The ban regime is still in effect in Hungary and Romania. Earlier, a batch of Ukrainian grain was found in Slovakia, which was contaminated with pesticides banned in the countries of the European Union.

Due to problems with the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, the European Commission had to make a decision regarding restrictions at the EU level. These are temporary measures that relate to the ban on the import of certain categories of agricultural products, such as wheat, corn, turnips, and sunflower seeds. According to Andrej Valner, spokesman for the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture, only the restrictions set by the European Commission will apply in the country.
