The grain agreement was extended for two months

The President of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, announced in his own Telegram account that the grain agreement was extended for two months.

"With the efforts of our country, the support of our Russian friends and the contribution of our Ukrainian friends, a decision was made to extend the Agreement on the Black Sea Grain Corridor for another two months," the Turkish president noted.

According to him, the Russian side promised not to interfere with the departure of Turkish ships from the ports of Olbia and Mykolaiv.

"I wish that this decision, which is of vital importance for the smooth operation of global food supply chains and especially for facilitating access to grain for countries in need, will be beneficial for all parties," the Turkish president added.

At the same time, Recep Erdogan also thanked the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky "for constructive cooperation". The Turkish leader, in turn, thanked UN Secretary General António Guterres for his "efforts in this process."

Shortly before the Tg report, a number of Turkish officials confirmed that the grain agreement would be extended, and that the Russian Federation had agreed not to withdraw from it for the time being. According to experts, the agreement, brokered by Turkey and the United Nations, will keep open a major trade route against the background of Russia's war against Ukraine and increase world food supplies. The grain agreement allowed the safe transportation of about 30 million tons of grain since its signing in July 2022. This helped reduce world food prices, which rose to record levels after the beginning of the Russian Federation's full-scale war against Ukraine.
