The prices of vegetables have risen in Ukraine - farmers warn of the threat of a vegetable crisis

In the first half of the year in Ukraine, the price of borscht vegetables rose the most. In particular, the price of a kilogram of beets rose from UAH 11.5 to UAH 32.9, and carrots rose in price by 160%. Potatoes added 88% in value, onions - 61%. The reasons for such a sharp rise in prices were a small harvest, insufficient storage capacity, power outages and an increase in the cost of electricity for businesses. At the same time, eggs became cheaper by 41%. The prices of millet, pork and buckwheat also fell significantly.

However, a significant shortage of vegetable products may arise in Ukraine in the coming days. As Yuriy Kormyshkin, the owner of JSC PAEK LLC, noted, with the abnormal heat that has covered the country, farmers are forced to raise the issue of the crisis situation not only with the yield of vegetables, but also with their availability in general. After all, according to him, this is a catastrophe that can reach the national level. According to the farmer, the soil temperature in the field reaches 68-70 degrees and even the presence of irrigation does not save. It is not possible to water during the day, and the moisture that is given at night is not enough. Due to the practically absence of light, the pumping stations that provide watering of vegetables are almost not working, and the maximum load that we give at night when there are several hours of light can soon put them out of working condition altogether. People cannot work in such heat. A lot of low-quality goods remain on the field.
