The UN suggests thinking about the transit of Russian ammonia through Ukraine

According to the reports of a number of mass media, which are quoted by Reuters, the UN has proposed to Kyiv, the Russian Federation and Turkey to start preparatory work for the transit of Russian ammonia through Ukraine.

According to reports, at the beginning of this work, the UN wants to conduct parallel negotiations on the expansion of the grain agreement to include more Ukrainian ports and cargoes. Apparently, Ukraine and Turkey have already agreed on a new proposal aimed at improving work in the Black Sea grain export corridor, but the Russian Federation has not yet responded.

"As you recall, the Secretary General put forward some ideas to the parties to improve the simplification of the work of the Joint Coordination Center, as well as work on the issue of ammonia exports, which is part of the agreement that was signed. Negotiations and contacts are ongoing," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric emphasized in this regard.

Let us remind you that on this occasion, Ukraine demands from the Russian Federation and the UN guarantees that the agreement on the safe export of Black Sea grain will work normally if Kyiv allows Russian ammonia to transit through the territory of Ukraine. However, earlier the Deputy Minister of Reconstruction of Ukraine, Yurii Vaskov, explained why Ukraine refuses to pump Russian ammonia through its territory, in exchange for the full operation of the grain agreement.

"There is not a single word in the agreement about the ammonia pipeline. It was only about the export of available ammonia. It was 40,000 tons at that time. Not a word about the tube, not a word about transit. Technically, the ammonia pipeline is ready to pump 100,000 tons per month. It takes 30 days for it to work. At today's prices, this is $28-30 million in profit for Russian shippers," Yuriy Vaskov said at the international conference "Grain Ukraine 2023".
