The value of Ukrainian grain stolen by Russia may reach $2 billion - KSE representative

Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) professor Oleg Nivyevsky believes that losses due to theft and loss of Ukraine's grain harvest as of September alone may reach $2 billion.

We will remind that, according to Bloomberg, at least $1 billion worth of wheat was stolen from the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine. In particular, almost 6 million tons of wheat were collected in regions that are not under the control of Ukraine. Corresponding studies were carried out using artificial intelligence, which analyzed satellite images, determining where the grain was harvested.

The NASA team estimated that farmers in Ukraine harvested 26.6 million tons of wheat this year, which is several million tons more than the main forecasts, the agency noted.

However, according to Oleg Nivyevskyi, after reading the original article, you may get the impression that there is confusion between grain and wheat and it only talks about the harvest in the occupied territory.

Note that by the end of spring, Ukraine plans to send about 60 ships with food to needy countries as part of the "Grain from Ukraine" humanitarian initiative. Currently, the first ship, according to the message of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, has already delivered 25 thousand tons of wheat to the port of Doralie (Ethiopia).
