Ukraine Became a Member of the Committee on World Food Security

At the 47th session of the Committee on World Food Security, a historic decision was made for Ukraine. Ukraine was included in the Committee as a permanent member. The corresponding statement was published by the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on its official website.

The Committee on World Food Security is an international organization that brings together the world's leading food producers and suppliers. The organization is subordinate to the UN General Assembly.

This decision was commented on by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba. According to him, even before this historic decision, Ukraine had already become an important member of global food security. The country is actively working on exporting food products, so it is already a security guarantor for many world states. Mr. Kuleba noted that the inclusion of Ukraine in the Committee on World Food Security will provide new opportunities for providing food to countries that need it most.

Mr. Kuleba also noted that at the end of the 2019/20 trading year, Ukraine became the world leader in the supply of sunflower oil and also entered the top 5 countries for the export of barley (2nd place), corn (4th place) and wheat (5th place). According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the global COVID-19 pandemic has especially highlighted the role of Ukraine in the food security of the world. In particular, despite the difficulties, our country was able to fulfill its obligations to supply food to a number of states in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

At the same time, Mr. Kuleba noted that, despite the fact that Ukraine is one of the world guarantors of food security, active world supplies should not affect the situation with food directly in Ukraine. However, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, there are no threats to internal food security.
