Ukraine can become the largest producer of agricultural products in Europe

After joining the EU, Ukraine can become the largest producer of agricultural products in Europe with unprecedented potential. In an interview with Latifundist.com, the head of the BASF Agricultural Solutions division in Ukraine, Cesari Urban, told about this.

In his opinion, strategic investments from Ukrainian distributors are already noticeable, especially in the western part of Ukraine along the border with the European Union. These investments include logistics warehouses and rail infrastructure, and this move makes sense for two main reasons. After all, due to the ongoing war, Ukrainians can use both road and rail transportation to Europe, without relying exclusively on the Black Sea Corridor. In addition, when Ukraine joins the European Union, these investments will allow unhindered and quick transportation of Ukrainian products to European markets. At the same time, regarding the coexistence of Ukrainian and European farmers, the expert noted that the European Union faced a similar situation when Poland joined it.

According to him, once Poland, like Ukraine now, was one of the significant producers of agricultural products that joined the EU. For many years, using the common European policy of subsidies and programs, Poland successfully managed its integration. Therefore, the specialist believes that the European Union will be able to smoothly integrate Ukraine into the European market.

We will remind you that Ukraine remained in the top three suppliers of agricultural products to the EU. In the first nine months of the current year, Ukraine increased the supply of agricultural products to Europe by 11% compared to the same period a year earlier. According to the European Commission's December report on EU agricultural trade, imports from Ukraine showed the largest increase from January to September compared to 2022 - by 891 million euros, mainly due to higher imports of grain crops. Meanwhile, EU imports from Ukraine have been below 2022 levels since June, but almost returned to 2021 levels in September of this year. Among the largest exporters of agricultural products to the EU, Ukraine is second only to Brazil and Great Britain.
