Ukraine Is in the Top 5 Countries in Terms of Drought Risk

Climate change is increasingly affecting Ukraine. The World Resources Institute published a study according to which our country entered the top 5 in terms of drought risk in the summer. In addition to Ukraine, the top 5 also include Moldova, Bangladesh, India, and Serbia.

The World Resources Institute conducted analyzes for 138 countries. The ratings were based on 3 indicators – agrarian, regional, and industrial. The analysis took into account previous droughts, their frequency, and intensity, problems with water supply, the number of inhabitants, as well as the volume of crops, and the number of farm animals.

Representatives of the World Resources Institute said they could not take some African countries into account in the ranking. This is due to the lack of data for analysis. At the same time, the rating includes countries that do not always experience significant water shortages. However, the consequences of such droughts can be very serious for the agricultural sector of the economy.
