Ukraine needs assistance in demining territories

The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Mykola Solsky, at the meeting of the ministers of agriculture of the G7 countries, emphasized that Ukraine needs international assistance in demining territories, a large part of which is agricultural land.

According to a number of mass media reports, 470,000 hectares of agricultural land have been mined in Ukraine. They managed to survey 17.5% of mined areas. Of these, 57,000 hectares belong to agricultural land.

Mykola Solskyi also emphasized that Ukraine needs special equipment to speed up demining. According to him, a sapper can manually clear 15-20 square meters per day, and special equipment can increase this figure to 6 square kilometers.

It should be noted that the process of demining the liberated territories does not stop, but it is very complicated.

"To date, more than 2,600 sappers from state and private structures carry out demining in Ukraine. With such capacity, it will take us more than 20 years to clear only agricultural land," Mykola Solskyi emphasized.

We will remind you that the Ukrainian Government previously approved a plan of measures for demining agricultural land for sowing.

"Important decisions have been made so that peaceful agricultural machinery can enter our fields. We are doing everything possible to carry out spring field work in our country wherever there are suitable conditions for this. We have approved the Action Plan for Demining Agricultural Land. Ukrainian land in the areas most affected by hostilities will give birth and feed people all over the world. We are making fields and other lands safe for farmers to work in," stressed Oleksiy Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

In turn, the interdepartmental working group, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, determined the priority in the demining of agricultural lands. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.

"It is also necessary to clearly understand that the figure of 470,000 hectares is the land that, first of all, needs a high-quality survey for the presence of explosive objects, not necessarily immediate demining," the Deputy Minister noted at the time.
