Ukraine, together with Britain, will teach everyone to determine the origin of grain exported by Russia

Ukraine, together with Britain, is planning to launch a system to accurately determine the origin of grain exported by Russia at the end of the summer. According to the press service of the Apparatus of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the system is based on laboratory analysis and comparison of grain samples, which will allow establishing the origin of grain with regional accuracy.

Currently, specialists are completing the creation of a comparative database of grain samples from different regions of Ukraine. This will allow them to be compared with samples taken from ships. And the results of the laboratory analysis, which confirm that the grain on the ship was stolen from the occupied territories of Ukraine, can be used against the owners and carriers of this grain. However, specific measures - the arrest of the vessel or the imposition of fines - will depend on the country of registration of the vessel, its owner and legislation.

It should be noted that already in 2022, Ukraine used satellite images to track ships that were transporting allegedly stolen grain, and appealed to potential buyers to refrain from purchasing. However, the evidence based on satellite images proved to be insufficient, as Russia is also a major grain producer. Therefore, Ukraine, Lithuania and Great Britain are developing a new system for determining the origin of grain. In Great Britain, the development of a methodology for the chemical analysis of grain is being completed. Lithuania, for example, plans to use this analysis to prevent the transportation of stolen Ukrainian grain through its ports.

We will remind that as of the end of last year, the Russian occupiers have already stolen millions of tons of Ukrainian grain worth about 1 billion US dollars.
