Ukrsugar Asks the Ministry of Economy to Refuse Export of Sugar From Europe

The Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine appealed to the Minister of Economy, Oleksiy Lyubchenko, with a request to abandon the liberalization of the terms of sugar export from Europe. The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to introduce a limit on 120,000 tons of sugar that can be imported from Europe at a zero import rate.

Representatives of Ukrsugar believe that such measures are not needed, and sugar producers are able to fully meet the needs of the domestic market. As of June 1, 2021, more than 300,000 tons of the product are stored in the warehouses of sugar producers, which can be sold at any time. In addition, there are leftovers of Ukrainian sugar in the warehouses of trade networks and retailers. On average, Ukraine consumes 80,000 tons of sugar per month.

The Ukrsugar Association emphasizes that our country has imported 40,000 tons of ready product, as well as 60,000 tons of raw sugar from Brazil, and this is enough to meet the needs of the Ukrainian market before the start of the new season.

In the sowing season 2021/2022, the acreage of sugar beet increased in Ukraine, and the weather conditions are favorable for a large harvest. In this regard, Ukrsugar is confident that there is no need to stimulate sugar imports.
