Farmers Are Compensated for Growing Plants for Power Generation

The State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving has developed a program to compensate for the costs of growing so-called “energy” plant species. This was reported on the official portal of the government.

The agency is developing a program that will last for 5 years. Within its framework, it is planned to partially compensate the costs of targeted loans that were received for planting the corresponding plant species. The chairman Konstantin Guru expressed hope that government bodies would approve the idea. He stated that energy plants are a much more profitable alternative to traditional gas for producing heat and electricity. In addition, such a solution will allow the restoration of fertile soils that have degraded during the "downtime".

The State Energy Efficiency Agency proposes several bills that will help attract investment in this sector. The documents propose a definition of the term "energy plants", increase the lease term for the use of land plots, and reduce the maximum payment to 5% of the monetary value. In addition, the bill provides for a mechanism to lease unproductive areas for growing energy plants without an auction.
