The government does not predict high prices for vegetables this year

Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, believes that there will be no high prices for vegetables in Ukraine this year. According to him, last year Ukrainian farmers increased the area of vegetable sowing in the central and western regions. This led to a 2-3 times decrease in prices compared to the previous year.

According to him, sowing is currently underway and experts state that Ukrainian farmers continue to grow vegetables in other regions. In advance, a good harvest is expected, and because of this, experts do not predict such a shortage of vegetables, which previously occurred due to a full-scale invasion. In particular, cabbage, carrots, beets and onions are already close to the cost price with a certain minimum income, so it is not worth waiting for any further significant price reduction either.

For example, currently Ukrainian potato producers are once again forced to reduce the prices of their products, as the supply remains quite voluminous, while the demand continues to fall. As EastFruit analysts noted, in addition, many buyers complained about the quality of the products offered and often refused to purchase. Thus, wholesale prices for potatoes in Ukraine have currently dropped to UAH 12-17 per kilogram, which is about 14% cheaper than at the end of the last working week. Given the large volumes of these products on the market, Ukrainian farmers do not rule out the possibility of a further drop in value. But EastFruit noted that, despite the price reduction, potatoes in Ukraine are currently 2.7 times more expensive than in the same period last year.
