The Area of Mined Agricultural Land in Ukraine Became Known

The war in Ukraine created serious problems for Ukrainian farmers. Because of the fighting, they have to harvest in mined fields. Unexploded ordnance or mines that were left by the occupiers are often found in the fields. Therefore, work in the fields carries significant risks to the life and health of people.

At the moment, it is known that about 4.8 million hectares of agricultural land are mined in Ukraine. Another 13.6 million hectares require inspection for unexploded ordnance. In some territories where the Russian occupation forces were present for a short period of time, chaotic mining and installation of trip wires are observed.

It is also reported that approximately one in five artillery ammunition of the occupying Russian forces does not explode. These shells also pose a great threat. Farmers are advised to apply for mine clearance as soon as possible, as there are serious risks to life and health.
