27 new markets await Ukrainian agricultural products
Acting Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Olha Shevchenko, during the presentation of the report on the agency's activities for 2022, said that the Service is currently working on opening more than 27 new international markets for Ukrainian goods.
"More and more markets are becoming available for our exporters of both livestock and plant products. To date, more than 27 markets are in the process of opening," the media quoted the state official as saying.
The head of the Service reported that negotiations are currently underway to open the markets of Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Kuwait, Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Hong Kong, the European Union, Canada, Mexico, Oman and China.
We will remind that in 2022, 27 new markets were opened for Ukrainian goods, and in 2021 - 25.
It should be noted that by the end of 2022, the volume of trade in agricultural products between Ukraine and the European Union amounted to $16.5 billion. This is the highest figure during the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. This indicator exceeded the previous record of 2021 ($11.9 billion) by 39%. The relevant information was published by the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economy". The main European partners for Ukraine last year were Poland, Romania, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Hungary. Currently, these countries make up 77% of the total domestic trade turnover of agricultural food with the EU.
"Given the current situation, the European Union will remain the main partner in the foreign agricultural trade of Ukraine this year, because under any circumstances, the absence of tariffs on products from our country, well-developed logistics routes and the lack of alternatives of this regional association for road and rail transport will contribute to the strengthening of the economic integration between the parties," said Deputy Director of the Center, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Mykola Pugachev.
