A Record Volume of Grain Consumption on the Planet Is Expected in 2021-2022

Analysts expect growth in grain consumption in the 2021/22 season to record levels. This is stated in the report of the FAO experts. As follows from the document, the projected volume of grain consumption on the planet by July 2022 will amount to 2,809 million tons, which will exceed the record value by 40 million tons.

The greatest demand is expected for wheat. Analysts predict that its consumption will amount to 777 million tons, which is 2.4% more than in the 2020/21 season. At the same time, wheat will not be in great demand as a forage crop. This is due to the rise in prices for this type of grain, which makes it less competitive in comparison with corn.

One of the few crops for which consumption is projected to decrease is barley. The negative outlook is associated with a reduction in crop production.
