Analysts Have Improved the Forecast for Grain Yields in Ukraine

Due to the Russian invasion and all-out war, the Ukrainian agricultural sector has faced significant challenges. However, despite this, analysts are improving their forecasts for grain yields. According to APK-Inform analysis, the estimated grain harvest in 2022 can reach up to 55.7 million tons. Previously, experts predicted 54.1 million tons.

The report also contains data on the distribution of crops. In particular, the expected wheat harvest will be 19 million tons, 30 million tons of corn, and 5.5 million tons of barley. These are improved figures compared to the previous report but very far from last year's figures when 86 million tons of grain were harvested. Due to the occupation of Ukrainian territory and the mining of sown areas, many fields remained unsown. In this regard, grain exports are expected to decrease to 38.8 million tons in the 2022/23 season.

As for sunflower oil, its production could range from 3.5 to 4.9 million tons in the 2022/23 season. For comparison, in the 2021/22 season, the production amounted to 5 million tons. At the same time, from 3.0 to 4.6 million tons can be exported in the coming season. Export volumes may be affected by the sunflower harvest and the situation with logistics.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine published its report. According to them, the harvest of grain and oilseeds will amount to 67 million tons. At the same time, up to 45 million tons of grain can be exported.
