Britain has provided Ukraine with a new scheme for tracking grain stolen by Russia

As part of the 100-year partnership agreement, Ukraine will receive this new tracking scheme from the United Kingdom. The scheme was developed after Ukraine approached the G7 with a corresponding request.

Representatives of the UK government stated that Ukraine remains a key supplier of agricultural products and is vital for global food security. Therefore, the database will be handed over to Ukraine by the Environment Minister in the coming weeks. This will support Ukraine's efforts to track and halt the theft of grain from occupied regions. The new scheme will be signed during the visit of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Kyiv.

It is noteworthy that in May 2024, Russia unloaded a grain ship for the first time, which departed from occupied Sevastopol to Venezuela. In fact, this was an attempt by Russia to legitimize trading routes from occupied Ukrainian territories with its international partners.

However, other countries oppose such actions. For example, a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the verification scheme for grain stolen by Russia from occupied territories has already been signed between Ukraine and Lithuania. This document signifies mutual understanding among Ukrainian, Lithuanian, and British parties and pertains to the verification schemes for Ukrainian grain stolen by Russia from occupied territories using a special GVS system.
