Egypt Renewed the Contract with Ukraine for the Supply of Grain
The Egyptian government has signed a new contract with Ukraine for the supply of grain. This was stated by Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mikhaylo Nepran with reference to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Egypt Mikhaylo Nagorny.
Earlier, the media disseminated information that Egypt had terminated a contract with Ukraine for the purchase of grain in the amount of 240,000 tons. Nepran clarified that it was about the termination of the contract, which could not be fulfilled. The contract was signed with the obligation to supply the corresponding volume of grain in March-April 2022, however, due to the sea blockade of Ukrainian ports, it was impossible to export the products. At the same time, the contract did not contain provisions on the actions of the parties in the event of force majeure.
The new agreement will include procedures for dealing with force majeure. The volume of wheat supplies in the contract has not been changed – 240,000 tons. Ukrainian Ambassador to Egypt Mikhaylo Nagorny said that the government of the African country assured him that Egypt would not refuse to cooperate with Ukraine in matters of food supply.
