For the first time Romania topped the ranking of the largest importers of Ukrainian agricultural products

According to the results of 2023, Romania topped the ranking of the largest importers of Ukrainian agricultural products for the first time. Last year, this country bought it for $2.875 billion or 13% of the total volume of shipments from Ukraine.

As noted in the Institute of Agrarian Economics, the long-term leader - China took second place in the ranking of importers. At the same time, in terms of value, the country increased the volume of purchases of Ukrainian agricultural products. If in 2022 the value of supplies from Ukraine to the People's Republic of China was $1.888 billion, then last year it increased to $2.22 billion. Thus, China's share in the domestic export of agricultural food was 10% last year. And Turkey, having imported 1.994 billion worth of agricultural products from Ukraine last year, retained the third place in this ranking with a share of 9%.

Spain ($1.765 billion), the Netherlands ($1.274 billion), Egypt ($1.066 billion), Italy ($1.045 billion), Germany ($862 million) and Hungary ($471 million) were also among the top 10 main importers of Ukrainian agricultural products in 2023. . These ten countries generated 69% of foreign exchange earnings for domestic agri-food exporters last year. The key products of domestic agricultural exports have traditionally been grain crops, oils and fats, various oils, food and processing industry residues, as well as meat and by-products.

It should be noted that the consequences of the restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine introduced by Poland in the spring of last year and continuing to this day were not only the loss of its status as the main buyer on the world market, but also a decrease in the value of its imports by a third, to $1.797 billion.
