Молдовські фермери погрожують заблокувати кордон з Україною Moldovan farmers threaten to block the border with Ukraine
The Moldovan association "Farmers' Power" announced a threat to close all checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. Such an event may occur due to the fact that the country's authorities have not yet extended the grain import restriction, which expires on December 31.
The association emphasized that the draft law on the extension of restrictions on the import of grain and oil crops was published only on December 18, and public consultations can continue until January 1. Therefore, this law can enter into force only at the end of January or in the middle of February 2025. Because of this, the association "Farmers' Power" and two other specialized associations asked to extend the restrictions, but the authorities of Moldova, according to the farmers, decided to prolong this process as much as possible. The organization reported that on December 20, it will hold an extraordinary meeting of the council, at which a decision on "a possible protest event" can be made. It is about blocking all checkpoints and railways on the border with Ukraine.
In turn, the Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova was informed that this bill will be approved by the end of the month. Ministry spokeswoman Daniela Turkulets emphasized that the restrictions will be extended until the end of the month, and the project will be approved by December 31.
