Operating Ukrainian Ports Work at the Load Limit

The operating ports of Ukraine, Reni, Izmail, and Ust-Dunaysk, are working at the limit of their capabilities. Dmitry Barinov, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, said that in order to expand their capabilities, it is necessary to build new loading terminals.

At the moment, only 3 out of 18 ports operate in Ukraine. In total, 9 ports are located in the temporarily occupied territories, and another 6 operating ports cannot operate due to a transport blockade from the sea. Only ports on the Danube side are open. These ports transshipped 400,000 tons of cargo in March, and already in May, the cargo turnover amounted to 1.3 million tons. Most of them are agricultural goods. Barinov said that in June, the cargo turnover of the ports of Reni, Izmail, and Ust-Dunaysk should increase to 1.5 million tons.

Before the war, Ukrainian ports shipped more than 5 million tons of agricultural products. Thus, the cargo turnover is only about 30% of the time before the start of a full-scale military invasion of the russian federation in Ukraine.
