Part of Winter Crops in Kherson Region Damaged Due to Frost

Farmers in the Kherson region are counting losses on winter crops due to weather conditions. In particular, severe frosts and subsequent thaw led to the partial death of crops. The total amount of damage in the Kherson region is currently estimated at 1 million hryvnia.

Particularly affected are the territories that are located near the Oleshkovskaya desert. Rainfall is traditionally low in this area and there was no snow in winter 2021/22. Therefore, frosts down to -17 degrees damaged weak sprouts. Wheat and rapeseed were particularly affected.

Kherson region has the status of a zone of risky farming with extreme conditions. Therefore, insurance companies often refuse to insure crops. Because of this, farmers have to sow other crops in the areas in the spring in order to somehow reduce losses. The affected areas in the Kherson region will be sown with millet and mustard.
