Poland has decided on a list of Ukrainian agricultural products that it wants to block

Poland seeks to replace the current national grain embargo and protect its own market from Ukrainian products such as sugar, poultry, eggs, frozen raspberries, apple juice, sunflower and rapeseed oil. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture of Poland Czeslaw Sekerski at the parliamentary hearings in the Diet.

In his opinion, due to the excessive opening of the territory of the European Union to the influx of goods from Ukraine, it was Polish farmers who suffered the greatest losses. He emphasized that, indeed, Ukraine needs help, but the opening of the European market for the import of agricultural products to the EU cannot be as it is now. After all, farmers from Poland and other EU countries will not be able to withstand the competition. He also emphasized that the Polish government wants to introduce significant restrictions on the arrival of sensitive goods from Ukraine, including detailed and even restrictive controls at the border.

According to the government official, Polish farmers rightly express their opposition to the situation in which Poland's agriculture has found itself. Among the main reasons for the protests, the Polish minister cited the unjustified requirements of the European Commission's green course, the excessive supply of agri-food products from Ukraine to the Polish market, and the fall in the profitability of agricultural production. Therefore, Czeslaw Sekerski is convinced that the European Commission should understand the protesting farmers and realize that any changes in European policy should be fair.

We will remind that since February 9, strikes by Polish farmers started in Poland, who oppose the reduction of European subsidies for agriculture, the course of the European Commission and the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. On February 20 in Poland, during a nationwide strike by Polish farmers, who blocked all Ukrainian-Polish border crossings for both road and rail transport, an incident occurred near the "Medyka-Sheghini" checkpoint. Striking farmers opened a cargo container with corn bound for Germany and dumped it on the ground.

On this occasion, the President of Ukraine publicly appealed to the President of Poland with a call to hold a meeting of the two governments on the Ukrainian-Polish border to resolve problems with its crossing. At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced the participation of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine in the negotiations, as strikes at the border are delaying military cargo. In turn, Polish President Andrzej Duda supports the idea of a meeting of the Ukrainian and Polish governments with representatives of the European Commission to resolve the situation at the border. This meeting is expected to take place on March 28 in Warsaw. The head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, for his part, said that Warsaw intends to take under special control the sections of roads leading to checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.
