Sowing has started in Ukraine

The "PAEK" group of companies has started sowing spring grains and niche crops. Spring field work has already begun in almost all branches of the group of companies in the southern regions of the country. The company's farmers have also started sowing such niche crops as coriander, peas, flax, and spring barley. Work is also underway in the fields to close moisture after autumn plowing.

It should be noted that the Institute of Agrarian Economics currently predicts this year's harvest of grains and legumes at the level of 60 million tons. According to the forecast, the production of gross crop production in Ukraine will increase by 3.4% this year compared to 2024, mainly due to an increase in the volume of grain and leguminous crops. According to the Director of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics," Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences Yuriy Lupenko, the harvest of grain and leguminous crops will exceed last year's figure by 7.6%. The sown area under these crops will remain almost unchanged (+0.2%), but an increase in area is expected for corn (+14.1%) and sorghum (+12.3%), while the area under other grains will decrease by 16.5%, and under legumes - by 27.3%. According to him, in the segment of industrial crops, a decrease in the sown area under sunflower (-2.2%), soybeans (-1.2%), and sugar beets (-8.7%) is predicted. At the same time, a slight increase in the area under potatoes (+0.2%), vegetables (+2.7%), and melons (+0.5%) is expected.

In general, according to scientists' expectations, the yield of winter grains in 2025 will decrease by 6.9%, in particular winter wheat by 6.7%, rye by 5.9%, winter barley by 8.5%, spring wheat by 12.7%, and legumes - by as much as 20.3%. At the same time, an increase in the production of spring grains by 18.9% is predicted, in particular corn (+23.5%), millet (+21.2%), sorghum (+20.0%), and buckwheat (+3.7%). The production of oil crops will also undergo changes: an increase in the harvest of sunflower (+2.0%) and soybeans (+2.3%) is expected, while rapeseed may lose 13.1% due to changes in market conditions.

Speaking about forecasts and the current situation, it is worth mentioning the technical support of farmers. It became known the other day that the list of equipment that is subject to state compensation of 25% of the cost has been updated. Currently, the updated list includes 11,848 units of equipment from 138 Ukrainian enterprises. Ukrainian farmers have the opportunity to purchase agricultural machinery, 25% of the cost (excluding VAT) of which is compensated by the state. This year, more than 100 new items have been added, including equipment for feed production, machines for cleaning and sorting grain, transportation systems, sowing equipment, loading equipment and irrigation systems. These are products of Ukrainian manufacturers from Poltava, Kirovohrad, Ternopil, and Odesa regions, which are now included in the support program.
