The Easter basket in 2025 added approximately 17% to its value
Prices for basic products for the Easter table have increased significantly, so this year the cost of a traditional Easter basket for four people will be approximately UAH 1660. This is 17% more than last year. At the same time, if you supplement the basket with additional products - vegetables, fruits and Cahors wine, the amount will exceed UAH 2000.
According to experts from the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics," the increase in value is due to the rising cost of key ingredients, logistical problems and general inflation.
The biggest blow to the wallet is that baking 3-4 Easter cakes according to a classic recipe will cost UAH 318.4, which is almost 40% more than in 2024. According to experts, 1 kg of homemade Easter cake will cost UAH 230 this year, compared to UAH 180 last year.
Eggs traditionally remain the central element of the Easter basket, and they have become one of the leaders in price increases this year - the average cost of a dozen eggs is now UAH 77. Traditional meat products have also risen in price again this year. And dairy products have not been left out. Experts attribute the price situation to the consequences of the war: reduced production, loss of agricultural capacity, high energy costs and logistical problems. In particular, in many regions the volume of product supply has decreased, and transportation costs continue to rise. However, analysts believe that the price situation will stabilize somewhat after Easter. But in any case, this year the festive table will be noticeably more expensive for many families than before.
It was recently reported that the Ukrainian "Borscht Index" increased by almost 20% over the year - in March of this year, the cost of borscht was UAH 177, which is more than 19% more than last year, while this "index" increased by 9% over the last month. For the calculations, experts from the "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" took the recipe for making borscht, where 3 liters of water require 300 g of cabbage, 200 g of beets, 300 g of potatoes, 150 g of carrots, 100 g of onions, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 30 ml of oil, 500 g of pork ribs and spices.
