The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will continue to support the Ukrainian agrarian sector

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development plan to continue their cooperation in developing the Ukrainian agrarian sector this year. On January 31, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitalii Koval, and the Managing Director of the EBRD in Ukraine and Moldova, Arvid Tuerkner, discussed cooperation opportunities.

In particular, the discussion focused on the implementation of irrigation system reconstruction projects, support for the European integration process, and reforms in key areas of the agrarian sector: land reclamation, digitalization, and inclusive rural development policies. Currently, support, especially expert assistance from the EBRD regarding the adaptation of the agrarian sector to EU norms and standards, as well as reforms in land reclamation and agro-processing, is very important for the Ukrainian agrarian sector. For his part, Arvid Tuerkner noted that the EBRD will continue to support the development of the Ukrainian agrarian sector.

However, the Ukrainian agrarian sector will not only develop through external assistance. Since the beginning of 2025, 549 Ukrainian agricultural enterprises participating in the state program "Affordable Loans 5-7-9" have received 2.3 billion UAH. The most funds were received by enterprises in Kyiv – 243.1 million UAH (for 48 enterprises), Odesa – 208.8 million UAH (for 41), Kirovohrad – 181.1 million UAH (for 55), Chernihiv – 175.5 million UAH (for 35), and Sumy – 164.4 million UAH (for 17) regions. Overall, since the beginning of the year, 951 agricultural enterprises in Ukraine have attracted nearly 5 billion UAH in bank loans for development through various programs.
