This year's wheat harvest in Ukraine will be the lowest in five years - forecast

Experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations predict that the wheat harvest in Ukraine will be the lowest in five years. The reasons for this are the consequences of the war and drought.

Overall, global wheat production in 2025 will amount to 795 million tons, which corresponds to the level of the previous year. The condition of winter wheat crops in key producing countries in the Northern Hemisphere has remained unchanged over the past month. In the European Union, wheat production will amount to 135.5 million tons, which is 12% more than last year, due to an increase in acreage. In the United States, total wheat production is forecast to decrease in 2025 due to lower yields, as a larger area of winter wheat crops has been affected by drought. In Canada, production will remain practically unchanged compared to last year, although it will exceed the five-year average.

Returning to Ukraine, it should be noted that wheat production this year is expected to be below the five-year average due to the ongoing war, and dry weather conditions lead to expectations of a moderate decrease in yield compared to the previous year.

In total, almost 53 million tons of grain and almost 20 million tons of oil crops were harvested last year.
