Together with the finish of the sowing campaign, the 2024 harvest began
Mykolaiv Oblast was the first in Ukraine to start harvesting grain crops. Local farmers were the first to start harvesting winter barley.
According to preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2024 the total gross production of grain and oil crops in Ukraine will be about 74 million tons. Cereals will comprise about 52.4 million tons, and oil crops - 21.7 million tons. It is predicted that Ukrainian farmers will be able to harvest 19.2 million tons of wheat (22.2 million tons were harvested last year), 4.9 million tons of barley (5.7 million tons last year), and 26.7 million tons of corn (against last year's 30.5 million tons). Among oilseeds, an increase in the volume of soybeans is predicted. The production of this crop is expected to be 5.2 million tons against 4.7 million tons in 2023. Sunflower production is forecast at 12.4 million tons, and rape harvest is forecast at 4.1 million tons.
At the moment, the forecasts regarding the indicators of gross fees are preliminary and will be adjusted during the year depending on the circumstances, primarily weather conditions. At the same time, the total sown area of grain and leguminous crops this year is forecast at the level of 10.6 million hectares (-395 thousand hectares compared to the indicator of 2023).
And according to the results of the spring sowing campaign in Ukraine, almost 13 million hectares were sown - 7.2 million hectares of oilseed crops and almost 5.6 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops.
