Ukraine Improves Vehicle crossing system on borders with the European Union

The Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine is introducing a new queue format for empty trucks in the "eCherha" system. Starting today, truck drivers weighing over 7.5 tons will be able to register in a separate queue at five key border crossing points, which will reduce waiting times and avoid congestio.

This innovation aims to ensure a more predictable border crossing time and reduce congestion at border crossing points. A separate queue for empty trucks will be available at five key border crossing points: Uzhhorod – Vysne Nemecke (on the border with Slovakia), Krakovets – Korczowa (on the border with Poland), Shehyni – Medyka (on the border with Poland), Rava-Ruska – Hrebenne (on the border with Poland) and Chop – Zahony (on the border with Hungary). Registration is currently open for the Uzhhorod – Vysne Nemecke border crossing point, and registration will begin on March 18 for the Krakovets – Korczowa, Shehyni – Medyka, and Rava-Ruska – Hrebenne points. On March 25, the new queue format will be launched at the Chop – Zahony point. Queues for empty trucks will be marked accordingly in the "eCherha" system. For example, for the Chop – Zahony border crossing point, the queue will be called: "Chop – Zahony (for empty trucks over 7.5 tons)." This will allow drivers to easily navigate and choose the desired type of queue. Trucks carrying goods with special storage conditions or picking up cargo shortly before crossing the border must register in the queue for loaded trucks. This is because the "eCherha" system verifies the cargo code, and the queue will only be saved for loaded vehicles.

If an empty truck is registered in the queue for empty trucks, and a customs declaration for cargo is subsequently detected, the queue will be automatically canceled. This will avoid abuse and ensure a fair distribution of queues. It was previously reported that the "eCherha" system will be scaled to all trucks of licensed carriers throughout March. The innovation for empty trucks is part of this process and aims to further improve logistics at the border. The introduction of a separate queue for empty trucks will reduce waiting times at the border for loaded trucks, avoid congestion, improve the efficiency of border crossing points, and ensure a more transparent and fair distribution of queues.
