Ukraine Is Expected to Reduce Acreage for Oilseeds in Favor of Grains

In 2022-2023, a reduction in acreage for oilseeds in Ukraine is expected. Instead, farmers will plant crops. This is reported in the report of the KSE Institute.

Before the full-scale war that the Russian Federation unleashed against Ukraine, the share of areas under grain and oilseeds was 63% and 37%, respectively. In connection with the hostilities, the area under oilseeds will be reduced by 35%, and grain crops are expected to be planted in their place. This trend was observed even before the war, and the sowing of cereals increased compared to oilseeds due to the profitability factor. Now it will deepen even more.

Before the start of a full-scale war, the share of wheat among cereals was 45%, corn – 36%, barley – 16%. The rest accounted for oats, rye, and other types of cereals.

Earlier, analysts revised the overall forecast for grain yields in the world. According to the report, the world wheat harvest will be 783.92 million tons, which is 4.32 million tons more than the previous forecast.
