Ukraine Will Use the EU Weight and Size Standards

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution according to which Ukraine is switching to the weight and size standards that are in force in the countries of the European Union. The corresponding project was submitted by the Ministry of Infrastructure together with the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety and National Automotive Road Agency.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov said that the implementation of the system of weight and size control started in 2021. As of 2022, there are more than 100 WIM sites operating in the country. In addition, the government has tightened the responsibility for exceeding weight limits. Thanks to these steps, it was possible to reduce the number of violations by 30 times.

Kubrakov noted that the transition to European weight and size standards is the next step. Previously, this was not possible due to the poor condition of the roads. The decree specifies the maximum allowable loads, depending on the number of axles and the axle spacing.
