Ukrainian farmers have almost completed the sowing campaign

According to operational information of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, a total of 5.5 million hectares, or almost 97% of the planned area, were sown with spring grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine.  

In terms of crops, the dynamics of sowing is as follows:
wheat – 252.5 thousand hectares, or 102.6% of the plan (246.1 thousand hectares);
barley - 782.2 thousand hectares, or 95.6% of the plan (818 thousand hectares);
peas - 162.5 thousand hectares, or 101.6% of the plan (159.9 thousand hectares);
oats - 163.7 thousand ha, or 100.7% of the plan (162.7 thousand ha);
corn - 3.809 million hectares, or 97% of the plan (3.912 million hectares);
buckwheat - 85.5 thousand hectares, or 68% of the plan (124.8 thousand hectares);
millet - 60 thousand hectares, or 70% of the plan (85.3 thousand hectares);
other cereals and legumes - 84.4 thousand hectares, or 91% of the plan (92.4 thousand hectares).

In addition, as of May 23, 4.958 million hectares, or 94% of the planned (5.288 million hectares), soybeans - 1.83 million hectares, or 92% of the planned 1.99 million hectares, were sown in Ukraine. It is also worth noting that the recent weather changes and frosts did not have a large-scale impact on the sowing of grain and oil crops in Ukraine. As acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi said, the frosts could affect horticulture, first of all, stone crops, but it will be possible to assess their role only in June. In addition, spring frosts can significantly affect the production of apples in Ukraine. The greatest losses are predicted in central Ukraine and in Podillya — up to 30-40%, slightly more in the southwest.
Frosts damaged corn and soybean seedlings. The share of damaged ladders was 3-5%.

We should add that earlier the Ministry announced the first forecasts of the grain and oil crops harvest in Ukraine. It is predicted that in the current year the total gross production of grain and oil crops in Ukraine will amount to about 74 million tons - about 52.4 million tons of grain and 21.7 million tons of oil crops. It is predicted that farmers will be able to collect 19.2 million tons (22.2 million tons were collected last year), 4.9 million tons of barley (5.7 million tons last year), and 26.7 million tons of corn (30.5 million tons last year) Among oilseeds, an increase in the volume of soybeans is predicted. This crop is expected to produce 5.2 million tons against 4.7 million tons in 2023. Sunflower production is forecast at 12.4 million tons, last year 12.9 million tons were harvested. Ripe is expected to be harvested at 4.1 million tons, last year 4.7 million tons were harvested. 

In general, these forecasts regarding gross collection indicators "are preliminary in nature and will be adjusted during the year depending on circumstances, primarily weather conditions.
