Ukrainian producers of livestock products fully meet the needs of the country

Ukrainian producers of livestock products almost completely supply the domestic meat market and its processing component. According to the latest information, in 2023, meat consumption in Ukraine amounted to 54.7 kg per person for the minimum norm of 52 kg. Currently, the consumption forecast for 2024 is 53.9 kg. This happened due to a reduction in beef consumption. However, the population's demand for pork and poultry meat will grow as the most affordable types of meat.

It should be noted that in 2023, the production of poultry meat increased by 5.8% compared to 2022. Pork and beef production decreased somewhat, but the pace slowed down significantly. Also, the number of pigs and poultry in Ukraine is increasing in all categories of farms. Compared to 2022, last year the number of pigs increased by 3%, and poultry - by 2.2%. At the same time, higher rates are demonstrated by agricultural enterprises. At the same time, Ukraine has all the opportunities to become one of the leaders in the world meat market.

For example, Ukraine exports live poultry. In 2023, 1.2 thousand tons of live poultry worth $2.5 million were exported. The main export markets for Ukrainian live poultry are Moldova, Georgia, and Armenia. It is expected that in 2024, the import of live poultry to Ukraine will continue to grow. In addition, we have now doubled our chilled beef exports. According to preliminary data, in March 2024, Ukraine exported 1.46 thousand tons of livestock by live weight, which is 67% more compared to February 2024 and 63% more compared to March 2023. Revenue from delivered animals amounted to $2.92 million and increased by 77% compared to February of this year and by 73% compared to March 2023. All supplies were directed to Lebanon. In the first quarter of 2024, Ukraine exported 2.52 thousand tons of livestock (-142%) worth $4.4 million (-119%).

In addition, the volume of chilled beef exports in March increased by 99% compared to February of this year and by 94% compared to last year. About 37% of exported beef was sent to Azerbaijan, 28% to China, and 14% to Georgia. In January-March 2024, Ukraine exported 3.86 thousand tons of frozen beef worth $12.5 million, which is 36% more in physical volume and 65% more in monetary terms compared to last year's period.

Thus, in Ukraine, despite the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation, the production of meat and dairy products continues, but the hostilities affected the results of such work.
