In most regions of Odessa, the sunflower yield is 0.3-0.5 t / ha

In Odessa, the farms "Dinex-Agro", "Dinex-trade", "Arna" started the harvesting campaign of sunflower a couple of days ago. The yield is very low, ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 t / ha.

The head of farms Alexander Petkov told about this in the article "Corn burned, sunflower is burning: first results of harvesting in the South".

“No agronomic, any other methods would have saved sunflower. Not that in my memory, in the memory of people who have lived here for 90 years, there was no such drought. There were droughts, they were repeated, but they could not even imagine such a thing. Needless to say, we did not harvest the grain group (wheat, barley), we did not even drive the combine. Nobody is waiting for maize either - they overcame it long ago. In other regions, they may have taken cattle for silage, but in the south we have almost no livestock breeding, ”noted Alexander Petkov.

According to him, many say that irrigation will save the farmers of the south.

“I'm showing math. Regional water enterprises sell us water at 2.68 UAH / m3. With all other irrigation costs, a cube of water costs 4 UAH. At the same time, in order to get a corn harvest at the level of at least 5-6 tons, 5-6 thousand m3 of water must be poured out. It turns out 24 thousand UAH per hectare. These are unrealistic numbers, ”explained Alexander Petkov.

As for the state aid programs, according to him, the agrarians of the South have not received anything, although they were submitted more than a month ago. The farmer believes that nothing has gone beyond the promises of the Ministry of Economy.

“5.5 million UAH were allocated to the region's farmers to compensate for water supply - this is ridiculous. Documents are taken for watering, but no money is written off. Again, due to the ridiculousness of the amount per area, it does not cover all costs. The same story is with the program of compensation to the farmers of the South for the death of winter crops. They promised to give 5 thousand UAH per hectare, taking into account the submitted areas. And then they served, and then they did not receive anything. In our region, many enterprises fail, are resold, a complete disaster, "said Alexander Petkov.

As noted by Viktor Polkov, director and co-owner of Razdolnoye Agrofirm, the enterprise plans to start harvesting sunflower seeds on August 24-25. The culture developed in different varieties in different ways. In general, in the opinion of the farmer, there is a lack of moisture necessary for the full filling of sunflower.

“We expected a yield of 2 tons per hectare, God forbid, that it was 1.5 tons per hectare. This is due to the technology we use. The company works with liquid fertilizers, and carefully chooses the seed. We have irrigated land, but the sunflower is not irrigated, ”he said.

The farmer clarified that the agricultural firm sowed sunflower on April 1 and 25, and it turned out that late sowing is better than early. The crop that was sown earlier was "crushed" by the heat during the flowering period. And the sunflower, sown at the end of April, tolerated the heat normally, as the plants were small.

“Plus a couple of good rains helped. In general, we were lucky with precipitation this year. Our fields are located near the sea and the river and there is always high humidity due to fog and dew. Colleagues in the Odessa region were less fortunate, because there was a severe air drought in the region. If we have a humidity of 50-60%, then they have 9-11%, ”explained Viktor Polkov.

Recall that scientists from the Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine characterized the key aspects of the 2020 sowing campaign of winter rapeseed. Global climatic changes, which are now observed on a planetary scale, were especially reflected in the agriculture of Ukraine in 2020.
