Livestock breeders ask to limit the export of corn to avoid a rise in the price of feed

The sharp increase in the cost of feed due to the situation in the grain market over the past few months has negatively affected the cost of livestock production.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Pig Breeders Association.

It is noted that compound feeds in the cost of poultry and pig products account for 65-70%. The rise in prices for feed corn by more than 65%, feed wheat by 57%, sunflower and soybean meal by 39% and 42%, respectively, contributed to the increase in the cost of feed by 40-45%.

In order to prevent a further rise in the price of raw materials and prevent a shortage of fodder on the market, the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine, together with the Association of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine, turned to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal with a request to include in the Memorandum on harmonizing positions on the grain market the total annual volume of corn exports.

“Now the situation in pig breeding is getting critical. As a result of the current situation on the grain market, pessimistic and even panic mood among market operators has increased. This absolutely negates the achievements that the industry has for 2020. We call on Denis Shmygal to carefully review the balance of cereals and to guarantee not only the provision of animal husbandry with fodder, but also the food security of the state, ”the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine comments
